Each year, since 2000, a miniature insulator has been produced to commemorate the Mid-Ohio Insulator Show held the
first weekend in November every year.
The 2007 commemorative is a scaled version of a CD 317 Chambers. Each of these pieces are unique in colors and swirls.
No two appear to be alike. A few will even fluoresce when placed under a black light. They are embossed MID OHIO on the
front skirt and No. 37 centered on the rear.
2006 was the first year for the style change to the CD 317 Chambers. The majority of these were produced in a forest green
color. They are embossed MID OHIO on the front shirt and No. 36 centered on the rear.
From 2000 to 2005 the commemoratives were a small version of a CD 259 Roman Helmet. The front skirts were embossed
MID-OHIO and the rear skirts read: No 30 (31,32,33,34 or 35 for each consecutive years of the show). The first year,
2000 (embossed No 30) were a milky jade green color. The second year, 2001 (No 31) was a bright vaseline yellow. The
third year, 2002 (No 32) was a brilliant cobalt blue. The fourth year 2003 (No 33) was a plum colored wine swirl. The
2004 (No 34) is a beautiful medium purple. The 2005 (No 35) in aqua, produced by recycling old Hemingray insulators.
2005 was the last year for the CD 259 style at the Mid-Ohio show, though you may see it else where. The show hosts for
the 2006 National Show held in Austin, Texas and the hosts for the 2007 National in Orlando, Florida both used Steve’s
mold to produce miniatures for their shows. Austin’s are blue and blue with milk swirls. Orlando’s are green and green
with milk swirls. If you are interested in utilizing the mold for your show, contact Steve Blair for details, cost and
minimum run quantities.
Wilkerson Glass of Moundsville, WV has done an outstanding job producing all but the first two comemmoratives for the
Mid-Ohio show. Fred's, Junior and Senior, provide a glass molding demonstration at each Mid-Ohio show every November.
Recently they have been making a miniature CD 133.1 bullet style insulator with MID OHIO embossed on the base for their
demonstrations.
